Høstlund named as CEO of Nordic Aquafarms

Charles Høstlund, the former head of Norway Royal Salmon (NRS), has been appointed as CEO of Nordic Aquafarms, the land-based fish farmer.

He had been chairman of Nordic Aquafarms and his elevation follows the departure of the previous CEO, Bernt Olav Røttingsnes, who had earlier indicated he wanted to step down after six years in the post.

Kingfish Company moves towards profit as sales rise

The Netherlands-based Kingfish Company, which produces yellowtail in a land-based farm, saw growth accelerate during the second quarter of this year.

Announcing its Q2 financial results, The Kingfish Company saw its volume production rise by 36% from 377 tonnes a year ago to 512 tonnes this quarter and 922 tonnes for the half year against 740 tonnes in H1 2023.

New regime for Norway’s land-based fish farms

The Norwegian authorities are proposing a number of major changes for land fish farming operations as part of an attempt to create a more sustainable sector.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries has assured the industry that any new proposals will be open to consultation.

Some of the proposals revolve around biosecurity and salmon allocation regulations.
