Oslo Børs fines Gigante Salmon over information failure
Norwegian fish farmer Gigante Salmon has been rapped by the Oslo Børs for breaching the duty to disclose inside information.
The Euronext Oslo Børs, Norway’s stock exchange, has also imposed a fine or infringement fee of NOK 220,000 (£15,500) on the company.

Charles Høstlund, the former head of Norway Royal Salmon (NRS), has been appointed as CEO of Nordic Aquafarms, the land-based fish farmer.
He had been chairman of Nordic Aquafarms and his elevation follows the departure of the previous CEO, Bernt Olav Røttingsnes, who had earlier indicated he wanted to step down after six years in the post.

Fish farmer Nordic Halibut has reported a sound second quarter performance with a higher harvest and a near 100% superior quality rate.
The Norwegian-based company slaughtered 140 tonnes, up from 125 tonnes, during the April to June period, with an average weight of 4.5 kg but more importantly it achieved higher prices for this premium quality and popular white fish.

The Conservatives, known in Norway as the Høyre Party, and their more right wing allies are currently ahead of the ruling Labour-Centre Party alliance in the opinion polls. However, the gap is not huge and the salmon tax – also known as the “ground rent” tax – is not such a major issue in towns and cities away from fish farming areas.

Farmed cod may be reclassified as ‘white salmon’, says company
Norwegian farmed cod may be repositioned as “white salmon” if a new marketing experiment takes off.
Norcod, one of the country’s largest producers, says there has been a gradual increase in average sales prices with a few fluctuations along the way.
The company said: “Commercially, Norcod has stepped up its efforts to develop the market and position our product in a premium niche category, with corresponding sales prices and contracts. This is our main task at hand going forward.
“To position our farmed at a more premium position than the wild-caught cod market level, we have launched the Snow Cod product brand in selected markets.
“We are now working with the Norwegian Seafood Council and industry players to leverage this brand position and develop a premium, differentiated brand worldwide.”

Icelandic aquaculture business Aurora fiskeldi ehf is looking to build a large land-based salmon farm just north of the capital, Reykjavik.
Aurora, a relatively new company, eventually hopes to produce 14,000 tonnes of fish per year at Katanesi in Grundartanga.
