Salmon Evolution is launching what is said to be the first Norwegian smoked salmon from a land-based facility.
It should hit stores in the country, including Spar shops, within the next week or two.
The company said: “Salmon Evolution is pleased to announce its strategic partnership with Lofotprodukt AS.”
The salmon will be marketed under its premium brand “Lofoten”.
"Lofoten is a renowned quality brand which combines craftsmanship and innovation that aligns perfectly with our values," said Odd Frode Roaldsnes, Chief Commercial Officer at Salmon Evolution.
"We have received countless requests from consumers eager to purchase our salmon. It is with great excitement that we can now share the news:
"Starting in week 8, this smoked salmon will be available in Meny and selected Spar stores all over Norway."
According to the company, it is the first-ever smoked salmon consumer pack from a land-based facility to be launched in the Norwegian retail sector.
“This smoked salmon represents an exciting advancement in food production, utilising innovative technology at Salmon Evolution’s land-based facility,” the company added.
It said NorgesGruppen is playing an important role in bringing this product to market, and this launch supports their goal of increasing access to healthy and high-quality seafood for Norwegian consumers.
Øystein Rist, Commercialisation Director at Lofotprodukt, said: “Our shared goal is to increase seafood consumption and offer consumers more choices on the shelf by introducing land-based salmon alongside conventional alternatives.”
“Lofoten is always on the lookout for innovative solutions. We support new methods of seafood production and are excited to explore the opportunities that land-based aquaculture can create for the future.”
Salmon Evolution says it has a clear roadmap to achieve 100,000 tonnes HOG (head on, gutted) annual production capacity in its hybrid flow-through system (HFS), which it says creates optimal growth conditions in a controlled environment on land. This approach, the company believes, captures the benefits of both land-based and sea-based farming.
