Frøy took delivery of the Frøy Saga (pictured), built by the Sefine Shipyard in Turkey, at the end of February. The vessel is already in operation with Mowi.

Frøy Saga is a hybrid diesel-electric, 4,500 cubic metre all-round wellboat from the Møre Maritime series. It is the sister ship of Gåsø Odin, another Frøy vessel which is currently in service with Mowi’s competitor, SalMar.

The new wellboat is specially designed to transport fish and is equipped with advanced technology for efficient processing of salmon. The vessel has 12 cabins with 14 berths.

Frøy Saga was ordered in May 2022. Throughout the construction period, Frøy has had a site team present at Sefine Shipyard in Yavlova, Turkey to ensure progress and quality.

Tonje Foss, CEO of Frøy said: “We have had a close and good dialogue with our customer Mowi. Together, we have made the necessary changes so that the boat meets best practice and new requirements.

“Mowi has inspected the building on several occasions during the construction period, and their commitment and cooperation have been invaluable in ensuring high quality.”

She added: “The vessel is developed to ensure optimal fish welfare and meets both current and future requirements for circulation, oxygenation, filtration and UV treatment.

“At the same time, it offers high comfort for the crew, with high-level facilities. Frøy Saga represents not only a boat built for future emission requirements, but also a vessel that sets the standard for the crew’s working environment.”

The wellboat is equipped with a vacuum sorting system that efficiently handles all types of cleaner fish, as well as renovated well surfaces that provide optimal hygiene using the automatic washing system. With diesel-electric propulsion and battery technology, the vessel reduces both fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

With a service speed of 12 knots and diesel-electric propulsion, optimal fuel utilisation is assured, Frøy said.

The boat is 84.5 metres long and 20 metres wide and is equipped with four Yanmar generators of 1,300 kW each, as well as a battery hybrid solution of 510 kW that helps reduce peak load.
