An innovative net cleaning pump system has successfully completed its latest round of trials at a fish farm in Scotland.
The NetJet system, developed by engineering firm Brimmond, recently concluded its second live industry campaign with AKVA Group, the world’s largest supplier of support and services to the aquaculture sector. The net cleaning pump was deployed to Loch Fyne in late 2024 for a 60-day trial, to test out some product improvements following an earlier project on a fish farm near Mull.
Brimmond said feedback from the clients during this latest trial was extremely positive, highlighting the unit’s ease and efficiency of operation, as well as Brimmond’s rapid response customer service and support.
The NetJet™ rental offering is supplemented by what the firm says is a comprehensive, local customer care package, including a fleet of specialist vans maintaining a stock of critical spares which are stocked at the company’s Aberdeenshire facility, for a fast response to any maintenance issues.
Tom Murdoch, Managing Director of Brimmond, said: ““The trial at Loch Fyne showcased the outstanding engineering of the NetJet™ and the responsiveness of our Technical and Engineering teams. Over the 60-day period, NetJet™ minimised downtime, highlighting its exceptional efficiency. While we did experience a couple of minor teething issues in what was only our second ever live field trial, our technical support team were on-site within 24 hours to resolve these.. overall this was a fantastic opportunity for us to demonstrate not only the unit’s efficiency and reliability in a live industry setting, but also the reduced maintenance costs thanks to its exceptional build quality and responsive customer support package.”
Donald Fowler, Commercial Manager at AKVA Group Scotland, commented: “We were extremely impressed by how easy the unit is to operate, and how quiet it is. What’s more the NetJet’s higher power output yielded superior cleaning results, enhancing efficiency. Clean nets promote better fish welfare, which is always our priority.”
The new pump units were initially designed to fill a gap in the market for an affordable but high-quality net cleaning solution as a rental option, but following customer interest, Brimmond is now offering the option to purchase the units outright.
