The total output for the company during the October to December period was 73,800 tonnes against 83,200 tonnes in Q4 2023.

The figures do not include the contribution from Scottish Sea Farms, which it shares with the Leroy Seafood Group.

That should be announced when the final quarter report is published on 18 February.

SalMar is the world’s second largest producer of Atlantic salmon after Mowi, but like many Norwegian companies it was affected by jellyfish and other biological issues last year which have affected output.

The regional breakdown is (Q4 2023 figures in brackets):

  • Farming Central Norway 39,700 tonnes (42,300 tonnes)
  • Farming Northern Norway 27,700 tonnes (31,400 tonnes)
  • Icelandic Salmon 6,500 tonnes (7,200 tonnes).
  • SalMar Aker Ocean zero tonnes ( 2,300 tonnes)

Ski sponsorship announced

Meanwhile, SalMar has become an official sponsor of the Nordic World Ski Championship, delivering more than 10,000 fish meals to visitors, competitors and officials alike.

CEO Frode Arntsen said: “Trondheim 2025 will be a celebration for all of Norway, especially here in Trøndelag. We are absolutely delighted to provide healthy and nutritious food for all the amazing people working hard during the championship and for the spectators.

“We are impressed by the organisers’ clear focus on sustainability and believe this championship will serve as a beacon for future World Championships.”

Championship Director Åge Skinstad said he was thrilled to have SalMar on board.

“The World Ski Championships aim to be the most sustainable Nordic skiing event ever. It’s a perfect match to serve food from a company that prioritises sustainability in everything they do,” he added.
