Grieg Seafood has signed a deal with the construction company Consto, which will be building a new smolt plant for Grieg in Norway’s Finnmark region. Consto said it has been awarded the overall contract for the project and will be responsible for the construction technical delivery as well as the coordination of all performing professional groups. Included in the assignment is the construction of a quay adjacent to the new facility. Consto will collaborate with Pure Salmon Technology, which has been given responsibility for the process engineering facility. Regional project manager Fredrik Alver Okkenhaug said: “We are sincerely grateful that Grieg Seafood has chosen us as a partner in this exciting and forward-looking project. “The project fits well into our portfolio. From other similar projects, we have gained experience and knowledge that we will use, and our dedicated team has already started planning and detailed engineering with full effort.” The plant will consist of two post-smolt modules, each module with a capacity of 8,000 kg of feed per day and a vessel volume of 9,200 cubic metres . The two post-smolt modules will receive fish from Grieg Seafood's existing facility on Adamselv, in Lebesby, Troms and Finnmark municipality. The smolt will grow from approximately 100 grams to around 1,000 grams. The project has a construction period of two years, with the planned release of the first postal smolt into the sea in 2026. When the new plant is completed, up to 3,000 tonnes of post smolt will be produced annually. Consto said it has carried out several large industrial projects in recent years, and this collaboration with Grieg Seafood marked a natural continuation of the ongoing investment within its industrial segment.
