Icelandic salmon company Arctic Fish has reported an increased harvest for Q4, along with major investment in a new feed barge and other assets.
Arctic Fish, in which Mowi owns a controlling stake, produced a Q4 harvest of 3,456 tonnes compared to 2,529 tonnes in Q4 2023.
However, the operational EBIT per kg was down sharply by a euro from €1.65 to €0.61 (£0.51).
Arctic Fish said that biological development and growth in the quarter developed as expected.
The long-term harvest volume guidance for Arctic Fish of 25,000 tonnes by 2029 was reiterated, with sufficient smolt capacity being secured through internal smolt production and external smolt agreements.
Meanwhile, it has been announced that Arctic Fish and Scale AQ have signed an agreement to purchase a new feed barge and various equipment for the farm in Hvannadal in Tálknafjörður, Iceland.
Arctic Fish has also signed an agreement with Fjord Maritime for a battery that will be installed on board the barge, which will reduce the use of fossil fuels by up to 70%.
The company has also agreed to purchase farming equipment from Mørenot and FiiZK.
The company said: “All of this equipment supports the company’s policy of increased employee safety, better animal welfare and less stress on the environment.
The feed barge is from Scale AQ’s Aasgard line, and it is the first of this size that Scale AQ has produced. It can take up to 750 tonnes of feed and can feed eight pens simultaneously. It is also equipped with all the latest technology to control feeding.
