Fish Farmer, March 1991
In March 1991 Marine Harvest, as the world’s largest salmon farmer was known then, celebrated the news that the company had been granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen as suppliers of fresh salmon.
We reported: “The company, based at Craigcrook Castle in Edinburgh… account for some 25% of Scottish production.
“They operate some 24 seawater and freshwater salmon farms in the Highlands of Scotland and two processing plants at Fort William, employing over 700. Their fresh salmon products – much of them are now presented under the ‘Lochinvar’ brand – are exported throughout Europe and to North America and Japan.”
Marine Harvest, which is still the biggest player in the sector, changed its name to Mowi in 2019, and that is the brand its salmon are now marketed as. The company retains its Royal Warrant and its status was confirmed, for another five years, in 2021.
