Fish Farmer, July-Aug 2006
In 2006 Crown Estate Scotland honoured the best of the industry at the Scottish Salmon Farm Awards.
Loch Duart Ltd was named Bank of Scotland Salmon Farming Company of the Year while Scottish Sea Farms won the Fusion Marine award in the larger category.
Also at the awards, Johnson Seafarms scooped the Skretting Award for Best Entrepreneurial Initiative with a pioneering venture into organic farmed cod.
The award for Best Community Initiative, sponsored by Highlands and Islands Enterprise was won by Marine Harvest (Scotland) for an innovative programme raising awareness of salmon farming in schools – something the industry is still aiming to do.
Pan Fish Scotland was recognised in the Best Environmental Contribution category, sponsored by Schering-Plough.
Finally, Scottish Sea Farms won a second award, sponsored by Aurora, for Best Kept Farm, for its site at Creran, Argyll.
Crown Estate Scotland no longer runs its own awards but has been a sponsor of the Aquaculture Awards, held as part of the Aquaculture UK programme.
