Land-based fish farmer Gigante Salmon has passed another milestone in the construction of its hybrid flow-through facility at Lille Indre Rodøy in Northern Norway, with the completion of a second production basin.
This means only one of the planned three basins has still to be built.
The company said in a stock market announcement: “This is accordance with the previously
communicated project plan. Gigante Salmon AS therefore continues to follow the planned progression towards full production capacity from 2026, with a gradual ramp-up to an annual production of 16,000 tonnes HOG from 2028.”
The company said it aims to start harvesting its pilot production during Q2 2025, expecting approximately 550 tonnes HOG (head on, gutted).
Gigante Salmon is a land-based salmon farming company with its first production facility under construction at Lille Indre Rosøy in Rødøy. Early last year it reported large increases in its estimated construction costs, which led to the replacement of its CEO.
The company’s aquaculture concept is based on a flow-through system, combining the benefits of conventional and land-based aquaculture while eliminating issues associated with conventional, sea based, farming.
The largest owner in Gigante Salmon is the family company Gigante Havbruk, established by Kjell Lorentsen who still leads the business. It has been producing salmon since 1988.
