World fishmeal production up by 40%, industry body reports

Fishmeal and fish oil supply increased significantly in the leading producer nations in the first half of this year, according to the marine ingredients organisation IFFO. The IFFO survey for H1 2024 shows that fishmeal production was up by 40% and fish oil by 10%, compared with the same period last year.

MSP visits Cooke site in Shetland

Cooke Scotland’s Shetland operations played host to one of the members of a Scottish Parliamentary committee that is taking a close look at the salmon industry. Emma Roddick MSP represents the Highlands and Islands in the Scottish Parliament, and she is a member of the Rural Affairs and Islands Committee (RAIC), which is currently part way through a follow-up inquiry into the Scottish salmon farming sector.

Lerøy positive despite lower Q2 operational profit

The Lerøy Seafood Group, part owners of Scottish Sea Farms, produced a second quarter operational profit of NOK 906m (£66m), NOK 44m (£3.2m) lower than a year ago. However, the company said there had been good biological improvements during the period, with promising results from shielding technology.
