An AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) is a robotic device that operates underwater without direct human control. It is equipped with sensors, cameras, and propulsion systems that allow it to navigate through the ocean or other water bodies autonomously, gathering data and performing tasks.
Unlike the more commonly used remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), which are controlled by a human operator via a tether, AUVs are pre-programmed to perform specific tasks independently. Once deployed, they follow predetermined paths and missions.
In aquaculture, AUVs are used to deploy cameras and other environmental sensors, and they can be fitted with tools for tasks such as net cleaning, net repair and morts removal.
