Big Scale barge deal for Mowi
A DEAL for five new feed barges has been agreed between Mowi and Scale AQ, it was announced today.
The 500-tonne capacity Sea Farm Feeder barges will be delivered next year and distributed between the regions of Northern, Central, and Southern Norway.
Erik Mjøs, Mowi’s purchasing manager, said: ‘The combination of good technical solutions and compliance with our needs meant that the choice fell on Scale AQ.’
Tor Henrik Haavik, sales director at Scale AQ – which was formed earlier this year when three Norwegian suppliers, Steinsvik, Aqualine and AquaOptima, merged – said barges were one of the new company’s main focal points.
‘The fact that Mowi chooses us shows that we are able to fulfil the customer\’s requirements regardless of the type, technical solution, HS requirements and the desired load capacity,’ he added.
All the barges are 37m by 11.2m and will come equipped with FeedStation 2.0, described by the company as a ‘ground breaking’ approach, developed in line with Scale AQ\’s philosophy of openness and data sharing.
The barges also come equipped with a ‘barge control system’ that allows for the monitoring and control of many other systems from land.
Mowi has selected a bespoke silage system, including GRP tanks, Scale AQ\’s internally developed ‘grinder’ and a storage capacity of 86m3.
The barges have recessed selector valves on deck which are shielded from direct weather, functional veterinary rooms, large personal lockers, a workshop, and office facilities.
‘Mowi thus receives a spacious work place that can be used for many years,’ said Haavik.
