CRUISING WITH FISH AND CHIPS
FORGET lazing on the deck of a luxury liner in the Caribbean! The Sherborne Wharf in Birmingham is hosting Fish and Chip Supper cruises on a local canal. The relaxing two-hour trips begin at the International Convention Centre (ICC) and journey with full commentary through various canals to take in the sites and sounds of the city at night.  But the first stop is to pick up fish and chips at the Sherborne Wharf. Trips are planned for March and they are expected to run on a daily basis after Easter.
LEROY BUYS FISH WHOLESALE BUSINESS
THE Lerøy Seafood Group, which includes aquaculture and conventional fishing in its portfolio, has bought the family owned fish wholesaling business OF Laks & Vildtcentralen (L & V) for an undisclosed figure. L & V was established in 1923 by Henry Katralen and is one of Norway\’s leading seafood wholesalers. In 2017, the company had a turnover of more than NOK 400 million. Its customers are mainly in the restaurant and large scale market sectors.  Lerøy said it no plans to change the current operating set-up.
90 MILLION-YEAR-OLD FISH FOUND
PALAEONTOLOGISTS from the University of Alberta in Canada have discovered a never-before-seen species of fish in South America, with the help of a curious tourist. The fossil, called Candelarhynchus padillai, is thought to be at least 90 million years old, and has no modern relatives, said Oksana Vernygora, a PhD student in the University\’s Department of Biological Sciences.  The discovery was made with the help of a young tourist, visiting a monastery near the town of Ráquira Boyacá in Colombia. The youngster was walking into the monastery during a tour when he noticed the shape of a fish in flagstones on the ground.
POLICE HUNT FISH CON MEN
BOGUS fish sellers have been causing problems in some parts of the Midlands and North of England in recent months. In the latest incident the police have released CCTV images of two men they would like to speak to regarding the sale of some fish to an elderly woman at her home in North Yorkshire. They knocked on the door of a 96-year-old woman in Eggborough lastweek , put fish into her freezer and then demanded she paid  them £100, several times more than it was worth. Thinking they would cause trouble, she handed over £60 and they left.
