Billund founder is back with a new company

Christian Sorensen

The founder of Billund Aquaculture, which fell into bankruptcy earlier this year, has announced plans for a new venture.

Christian Sorensen, the former boss of the recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) tech company, said his new company will be called Billund Aquatech. It is understood this will focus on design and consultancy in land-based aquaculture, and is 100% owned by Sorensen.

Billund Aquaculture developed a strong reputation in the RAS field, with offices in Denmark, Chile and Australia, but filed for bankruptcy in July this year. Many of its assets were acquired by Pure Salmon.

The company’s board said that the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war had hit its business, and Billund was struggling with the impact of several disputes over the past few years.

Sorensen said this week that his new company would be working with “select experts” and would be officially launching the brand before the end of this year.

In an announcement he said: “We are excited to embark on this new journey with a team that has been at the forefront of RAS innovation for decades, and we are confident that together we will achieve significant growth and success over the next five years.”
