Salmon Evolution biomass at new high

Land based fish farmer Salmon Evolution has passed yet another milestone with its highest ever biomass at 2,100 tonnes, up from 1,047 tonnes at 30 June.

Salmon Evolution operates a hybrid flow-through facility at Indre Harøy on the Norwegian west coast. The company is targeting a production capacity of 100,000 tonnes HOG (head on gutted) by 2032.

In its report for Q3 of this year the company said biological performance had been strong. Parts of batch 3 were harvested in September yielding 185 tonnes HOG with 96 % superior share, tight weight concentration and good price realisation. Salmon Evolution is expecting a significant ramp up of harvest volumes in Q4, to 1,000-1,200 tonnes HOG.

Batch 8 was stocked at the end of August and batch 9 at the end of October, bringing the farm to a steady-state number of individuals of 1.5-1.6 million.

The company said that it is on track for production cost on a par with conventional farming in sea cages.

Financially, available liquidity stood at NOK 705m (£52m) as at 30 September 2023 including committed available undrawn credit facilities.
