Grieg’s former Shetland MD to take up North American job

Grieg Seafood has appointed Grant Cumming, the company’s former Shetland Managing Director, as Chief Operating Officer of its North American operations. He takes up the post early next year.

Grieg CEO Andreas Kvame said he was pleased to welcome Cumming into his new role. He said Cumming not only had extensive strategic and operational experience in the salmon farming industry, but knew the company well and shared its values.

Kvame added: “We were impressed with how he led the restructuring of our Shetland business, turned it into a profitable region and oversaw a successful sale in 2021. We look forward to having him as a part of our team once again.”

Grieg sold its Scotland and Shetland business to Scottish Sea Farms in June last year, in order to concentrate on Norway and Canada.

Cumming has had a number of  different roles in the salmon farming industry over the past 30 years.

He was the last managing director of Grieg Seafood Shetland before the business was sold.

He has a BSc (Hons) in Zoology (Marine and Fisheries Biology) from the University of Aberdeen and an MSc in Mariculture, specialising in Aquaculture.

Cumming said: “I am delighted to be re-joining Grieg Seafood. I have a lot of respect for the talented individuals that form our Canada team on both the East Coast and West Coast and I look forward to working with them to develop our operation in Canada in a sustainable manner.”

Cumming will also be a part of Grieg Seafood’s Executive Management Team.
