Mowi and Frøy sign ‘super green’ boat deal
The aquaculture services support company Frøy has entered into a contract to supply Mowi with a new low-emission workboat.
Frøy says the vessel, to be called the Frøy Supporter, is a further development of two earlier vessels in the same series (pictured), but will have an even smaller environmental footprint and will also act as a support for delousing operations.
Amund Melle, Operations Manager at Frøy, said: “With the Frøy Supporter, we have had an additional focus on noise reduction and carbon footprint.
“Together with our customers, we are leaders in the green shift… a powerful battery pack of 1074 kWh provides a significant reduction in the CO2 footprint in addition to financial savings on fuel consumption.”
Another feature is a large battery pack and an improved hydraulic system which will provide a quieter environment for the crew working around the cage.
Melle added: “We have focused on comfort and noise reduction, which provides a better working environment for the crew during 24-hour operation.
“This leads to wellbeing and a stable crew. A stable crew is the basis for good relations between service and support vessels, wellboats and treatment vessels and locality, which in turn contributes to efficient and safe work operations for both people, fish and vessels.
Magnar Svoren, Mowi’s head of Mowi’s central and west region, said he was pleased that he and Frøy have the same focus on continuously improving both the working environment and environmental footprint.
The deal also strengthens a working co-operation between the two companies stretching back several years.
