Valencia is the venue for Aquaculture Europe 2025

The historic Spanish town of Valencia will host Aquaculture Europe 2025, the annual conference of the European Aquaculture Society (EAS), in September next year.

Taking place over 22-25 September, this highly anticipated event will bring together industry leaders, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders from across Europe and beyond to explore the future of sustainable aquaculture practices.

The video showcasing this event was launched at AQUA 2024, the joint EAS/World Aquaculture Society event held last month in Copenhagen.

Given the significance of Spanish aquaculture within the Mediterranean region and the strong focus on research in this field, the Aquaculture Europe 2025 event (AE2025) is expected to be the “must attend” event next year, according to Alistair Lane, Executive Director of the European Aquaculture Society (EAS).

“We are excited to host the European Aquaculture Conference in Valencia,” stated Professor Jaume Pérez Sánchez, researcher at the Institute of Aquaculture Torre de la Sal (IATS, CSIC), Chair of the Conference Steering Committee. “Building on the global success of AQUA 2024, this conference will continue the dialogue on innovation and sustainability in aquaculture.

“We are eager to welcome experts and enthusiasts from across Europe and all other continents to share their knowledge and experiences.”

Valencia is one of the most important regions of the Spanish aquaculture sector. Not only in production volumes, but also in scientific excellence. Marine aquaculture is indeed a very active sector at the Valencian region leading Spanish production of marine fish, mainly gilthead sea bream, meagre and European sea bass.

Making aquaculture accessible

The theme of the AE2025 conference is: “Aquaculture for Everyone.”

With its wide range of species and production technologies, its variety of market propositions, and its respect for the environment and the changes it is undergoing, aquaculture has become an essential sector in global food supply. There is no doubt, therefore, that aquaculture is and must be accessible to everyone.

This all-inclusive concept is feasible and compatible with the environmental integrity of our coastal areas, with the regeneration and sustainability of our primary sectors, with the economic well-being for important food value chains, with the professional and entrepreneurial formation of local human capital and with the long-life learning needs of our public administrations.

Developing social licence and promoting not only the production and commercialisation of high quality and health aquatic feeds, but also the ecosystem services that aquaculture provides, are key features of AE2025 – giving value to each and every person in Spain and throughout Europe.

The AE2025 sessions will cover the full scope of European aquaculture scientific disciplines and species, featuring submitted oral and e-poster presentations. The Conference Scientific and Innovation Program will be chaired by Dr. Diego Mendiola (Innovation Director at CAVIAR PIRINEA, the biggest Spanish company in rainbow trout production) and Dr. Martin Fore (professor at NTNU, Norwegian University of Science and Technology).

AE2025 will also feature an international trade exhibition, industry forums, student sessions and activities, workshops and updates on EU research. Key stakeholders such as such as APROMAR (Spanish Aquaculture Producers Association), FEAP (European Federation of Aquaculture Producers) and EATIP (European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform) will coordinate some sessions and businesses agendas. Important public authorities are also expected to attend and a national meeting of the general Spanish directorates for Aquaculture & Fisheries development will be held.

This event aims not only to highlight Europe’s advancements in aquaculture but also to serve as a global platform for experts to exchange insights and foster new collaborations.

Attendees can look forward to keynote presentations by internationally recognized experts, engaging panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and a comprehensive exhibition showcasing the latest innovations in aquaculture technology.

AE2025 will be organized by EAS, hosted by CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), and supported by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Generalitat Valenciana, the Valencia Convention Bureau and the ThinkinAzul-Valencia project.
