Lerøy Midt told to take new action after fish escapes

The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries has ordered the company Lerøy Midt Sjø AS to monitor and remove farmed salmon from waterways, following escape incidents at Hitra and in the Tingvollfjord earlier this year. A total of 21 watercourses in Trøndelag and eight in Møre og Romsdal are covered by the orders.

The air freight carrier, Hong Kong Air Cargo, is behind the service and believes seafood in particular can look forward to a more efficient route into Asia.

An explosion in the oxygen supply has led to the death of around 200,000 hatchery fish at a farming facility in Norway.
The regional newspaper Bladet Vesterålen reports that Trond Geir Reinsnes, the owner of the Sigerfjord Fisk site, described the incident as a “nightmare”.

Loch Duart expansion plans hit 2024 profits

Independent salmon farmer Loch Duart Ltd saw a big drop in profits for the year to 31 March 2024 – but the company says this reflects the cost of its plans for growth. Turnover for the Scottish-based company was £43.08m (2023: £52.5m) and operating profit was down to £1.29m from the previous year’s £4.67m.
