Faroese strike hits Bakkafrost hard but Scotland producing higher profits
A long-running general workers strike in the Faroe Islands has proved costly for the salmon farmer Bakkafrost.
The company said the action, which took place in the Spring this year, severely impacted on the second quarter (April to June) results.

Fishmeal and fish oil supply increased significantly in the leading producer nations in the first half of this year, according to the marine ingredients organisation IFFO. The IFFO survey for H1 2024 shows that fishmeal production was up by 40% and fish oil by 10%, compared with the same period last year.

Proximar Seafood said today it is ready to slaughter the first batch of salmon at its plant, near Japan’s Mount Fuji, within the next month. Presenting its second quarter and half year results, the Norwegian-owned land-based fish farming business has reported marking the quarter with a stable and good growth conditions and the first sales agreement with a high-quality customer in place.

GRIEG Seafood reported a disappointing second quarter today, with an operational loss and lower salmon harvests. The harvest volume was down by over 7,000 tonnes to 15,272 tonnes during the April to June period.
