High value contracts boost Brimmond turnover by 74%

North-east Scotland based engineering specialist Brimmond has today announced a 74% increase in turnover for the 2023-2024 financial year.

The company saw revenues hit £11.4 million, far exceeding its target of £10 million.

It has been a great year for the business with a number of high-value contracts achieved across multiple sectors contributing to this exceptional financial position.

These included a 5-year service contract with British Antarctic Survey (BAS) for crane servicing and engineering support on the Royal Research Ship (RRS), Sir David Attenborough.

The company’s largest service contract to date will see Brimmond become the main hydraulic contractor for refit periods, working across the ship’s Rosyth and Harwich bases.

Other milestones included:-

• A significant six-figure project for an offshore renewables project to design and manufacture a 1800kW Seawater Jetting Spread package.
• The design and manufacture of an IWOCS (intervention workover control system) Umbilical Reeler for Rosebank oil and gas field.
• A long-term six-figure rental of the company’s largest marine crane to assist with the P&A decommissioning campaign of the Thistle Alpha.
• Brimmond’s marine crane division, headed up by Paul Dingwall, has generated over £2million since April this year alone.

Situated in Kintore, Aberdeenshire, Brimmond specialises in the design, manufacture, rental and repair of lifting, mechanical and hydraulic equipment for industry.

With customer demand accelerating business growth, Brimmond embarked on an extensive recruitment campaign, increasing the firm’s headcount from 40 to 52 in the space of a year.

There was a re-structuring of the senior leadership team to align with the growth strategy which also saw the recent appointments of Matt Nicoll as Sales Director, and Craig Yeoman as Head of Finance.

As the organisation expands, Brimmond has committed to further streamlining operations, particularly harnessing data driven efficiencies as part of a digitalisation project.

Mike Berry has been appointed as Project Implementation Manager to lead this and is responsible for implementing a new ERP system across the business’ divisions and departments.

“Over the past year we have recruited into every aspect of the business, from support services to engineering and apprentices to leadership; we are committed to increasing both our capability and capacity.

“For any SME exceeding the £10m turnover mark and surpassing a headcount of 50 is a significant milestone. Brimmond’s performance over the past financial year is one I am immensely proud of.”

Despite working on projects around the world, Brimmond affirmed it was is very much rooted in the local community where they are based.

The teams, it says, are passionate about giving back to the community. The recently established ‘Brimmond Community Fund’ provides support for local charities and organisations close to the hearts of their staff members.

Staff also voted Charlie House as their charity partner in 2019. Since then, they have organised and participated in a range of fundraising activities, raising over £100,000.

Established as a family business 28 years ago by the current Managing Director’s father, Alistair Murdoch, Brimmond is based at a purpose-built facility located on 2.5 acres of land in Kintore.

Last year, the business invested £250k in a 1,300 square foot extension which is a dedicated area for fabricating and welding, reflecting the company’s dedication to high quality manufacturing and repair services.
