Oshēn salmon brand to accept crypto payments
The world of cryptocurrency and the sale of farmed salmon have come together for the first time. US salmon distributor BluGlacier has begun accepting this increasingly popular method of payment to purchase its “direct-to-consumer” (D2C) products.
BluGlacier is a joint venture sales company aimed at the US market and formed by the Chilean salmon producer Blumar and Productos de Mar Ventisqueros.
It owns the “Oshēn” salmon brand, launched during the height of the pandemic last year to meet strong demand from US retail and consumer markets.
Oshēn said it is “proudly announcing” itself as the first major salmon vendor to accept cryptocurrency payment through a new partnership with BitPay, the world’s largest provider of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payment services.
“This is the first time consumers can seamlessly use cryptocurrencies in the same way as a credit card or a debit card to pay for salmon,” says Evelyn Torres, chief marketing officer of Oshēn.
“This partnership with BitPay is part of our vision to make consuming top-quality salmon as easy as possible in an increasingly digital world.”
Customers will be able to select BitPay as a payment option when they check out online and choose from using Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin and several others. By expanding payment options with BitPay, Oshēn says it aims to maximize convenience for its customers and address the increasing demand for flexible and easy-to-use crypto payments.
Bill Zielke, chief marketing officer of BitPay said: “Cryptocurrency is increasingly changing the way businesses and consumers receive and spend funds, and BitPay is helping brands like Oshēn who want to transact in crypto.”
