New wellboat for Mowi Canada

Intership wellboat

A gleaming new wellboat has been ordered for salmon company Mowi’s operation in eastern Canada.

The order was placed by the wellboat company Intership, which has entered into a long term contract with Mowi. The vessel will have a capacity of 2,200 cubic metres and is due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022.

The vessel will be built by the Spanish shipyard Zamakona Yards in Bilbao, based on a design from NSK Ship Design. NSK was heavily involved with the design of the Nordlanks giant offshore fish farm project known as Havfarm1, which arrived in Norway in June following a 15,000 mile voyage from China.

In addition to promoting good fish health and reducing the spread of disease, the vessel will be equipped with a fully integrated reverse osmosis system and a large production capacity relative to the well volume. Intership has operated on-board freshwater treatments on another vessel, the Inter Caledonia, since 2016, and this new wellboat will become the company’s second with such a treatment system.

The CEO of Intership, Ole Peter Brandal, said:

\’It is with great pleasure that we announce this news. We are delighted to add a new build to our fleet and furthermore renew our confidence with our long-standing customer Mowi. When the vessel is delivered we will have two wellboats operating on the East coast of Canada, both for the same customer.\’

This is the latest major spend by Mowi at its eastern Canada operation where it has already carried out significant investment in new equipment.
