Marel to beef up UK base
MAREL, the Icelandic processing equipment supplier, is upgrading its UK operations to strengthen its brand in the country and offer its workforce a more modern environment.
And it is also looking to London for a possible Stock Market listing. The Icelandic company employs almost 200 people in the UK and Ireland and its plans include renovating its manufacturing facility in Colchester, Essex, and creating a modern sales and service office at its Birmingham base, which opened less than two years ago.
The company said the UK and Ireland were important markets for Marel.
The company’s UK general manager Graeme Rolinson: ‘The new development in Colchester is a visual milestone in our locations development and reinforces the hard work, commitment and determination by all in working towards making this location one of the leading locations and functions within the global Marel network.
‘We must now use this fantastic facility combined with the progress we have made over the last two years to strengthen our position not only within Marel but also in the global markets that we serve.’
Internationally, the company has just reported 2018 third quarter revenues of 282 million euros, up on last year’s Q3 figure of 247 million euros.
It said: ‘Our market is dynamic and fast growing. We aim to continue to grow at a faster rate than the market by leveraging our strong product leadership and global reach.
‘We are proceeding according to plan with the potential listing of Marel shares on an International Stock Exchange.
‘We have now narrowed our focus towards three stock exchanges: Amsterdam, Copenhagen and London.’
