INNOVATION, sustainability and food safety are the themes for the World Aquaculture Society conference in Taiwan in April.
Organised by the Asia Pacific Chapter of WAS and hosted by the National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU), the conference and exhibition will focus on aquaculture development in the Asia Pacific region.
Plenary speakers will include Dr Ching Fong Chang, president of NTOU and co-chair of the conference.
Also delivering a plenary address will be Dr Wang Qingyin, president of the China Fisheries Society, and senior researcher at the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute, CAFS, China.
He will talk about ‘Green Development–A Rational Approach to Sustainable Aquaculture’, discussing progress in China is tackling sustainability problems.
His work, since the early 1980s, has been in the field of genetics and the breeding of maricultural organisms and technologies – focusing on the selective breeding and genetic improvement of new varieties, with traits such as faster growth rate and disease resistance, in shrimp farming.
He has published more than 260 peer reviewed articles and 20 books as an award winning author on breeding and mariculture.
Alongside Asia Pacific Aquaculture (APA) 18, which runs from April 24-26 at the Taipei International Convention Centre, there will be a trade show, with more than 100 stands.
The conference and exhibition hall is situated in the heart of the city, said the organisers, who have asked for papers to be submitted by January 31, through the WAS website: www.was.org.
Members of WAS-APC can apply for several awards, including;

  1. Pre-conference Student Travel Awards – the best three abstracts will be awarded US$400 to support their travel to APA18
